Candidate experience when everyone gets an interview

Most candidates do not resent losing. They resent never being seen. Coverage is a candidate-experience feature before it is an efficiency one.

01

Silence is the real complaint

Ask applicants what they disliked about a process and the answer is rarely the difficulty. It is the void — weeks without a reply, then a template that gives no reason. That silence exists because screening capacity ran out long before the applications did.

When the interview costs nothing per candidate, there is no reason to reject anyone unheard. Everybody gets a turn on the same scene.

02

Make the terms clear before they press record

Publish what will be asked, how long it takes, who watches the recording, how long it is retained and what it is scored against. A candidate who knows the rules performs closer to their real level, which improves your signal as much as their comfort.

Offer a practice take and allow a retake of the first question. Nervous first minutes are noise, not evidence.

03

Feedback is cheap once evidence exists

A structured score against published criteria can become two honest lines of feedback for every applicant without a recruiter writing them one by one. That is the largest reputational upgrade available to a hiring team.

04

Design for the people you do not hire

Almost everyone who applies will be declined. They are also your future customers, referrers and reapplicants. A process that gives all of them a fair hearing and a clear reason turns a rejection into a reason to come back.

The real cost of a bad hire — and why it is a decision problem

A bad hire is rarely a sourcing failure. It is a decision made on thin evidence. Here is how the cost compounds and what changes when every candidate performs the same scene.
